Child Care Subsidy NSW: What Early Learning Centre in Toronto, NSW Families Need To Know in 2026

July 6, 2026

The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) can significantly reduce what Toronto, NSW, families pay for early learning. This guide explains how it works in 2026, covering updated rules, income brackets, and application steps.

What Is the Child Care Subsidy and Who Qualifies?

The CCS helps families with the cost of child care. Most families in the Lake Macquarie region, including those in Toronto, 2283, can access some level of support.

To qualify, your family generally needs to meet three core tests: you or your partner cares for the child at least two nights per fortnight and meets residency and income requirements; your child is under 13 and not attending secondary school; and your income falls within eligible thresholds.

Changes that took effect in July 2025 increased income thresholds, meaning more families now qualify. Families earning up to $535,279 may be eligible. Those earning below $85,279 receive a 90% subsidy, and families earning under $367,563 with more than one child may receive up to 95% for younger children.

What Does This Mean in Dollar Terms?

These are estimates only. Your actual entitlement will be confirmed by Services Australia.

Families earning under $85,279 per year receive up to a 90% subsidy, roughly $15 out-of-pocket per day on a $150 daily fee. Families earning around $100,000 receive approximately 70%, or roughly $45 per day. Families earning $160,000 or more still qualify in most cases, though the rate gradually decreases.

The hourly rate cap has increased to $14.63. If your center's hourly rate exceeds the cap, you pay the difference.

How Do Toronto Families Apply?

Applying is done entirely online. Log in to your myGov account, link Centrelink, select Child Care Subsidy, complete your claim, and provide your family income and activity details. The government pays a percentage of your fees directly to your center, and you pay the remaining gap. Enrolling at an Early Learning Centre in Toronto, NSW, means your centre can guide you through this process from day one.

2026 CCS Updates Toronto Families Should Know

From January 5, 2026, the Australian Government introduced the 3-Day Guarantee. All CCS-eligible families now receive a minimum of 72 hours of subsidized care per fortnight, regardless of work or study commitments. Families with more than 48 hours per fortnight in a recognized activity may access up to 5 days of subsidized care per week.

NSW families may also access additional support. If your child is enrolled in an eligible long day care service, the Australian Government's CCS is applied first, and NSW Government fee relief is then applied on top. Fee relief applies up to $1,783 per year for 4-year-olds and up to $423 per year for 3-year-olds.

What If My Family Has Extra Financial Hardship?

The Additional Child Care Subsidy (ACCS) can cover up to 100% of childcare costs for a short period for families experiencing temporary hardship or special circumstances. Speak with your center's team to find out if you may be eligible.
